Can anyone be hypnotized?
Most people can be hypnotized to different degrees. We are all in some state of trance quite a few times during the day; daydreaming/ "spacing-out", being engrossed in a film or a book, driving on automatic pilot for a few minutes - are all states of trance. We create a similar state through relaxation and suggestion during a hypnosis session.
I find that many of my clients either start by going easily into a medium state of trance, or learn quickly how to deepen their relaxation. There have been some that have been quite gifted and go immediately into the depth of hypnosis. In any case, It is a skill that improves quite quickly with practice.
Will I be asleep or unconscious?
Hypnosis is simply an increase of your focal attention and the decrease of your peripheral attention. It is both a state of deep relaxation combined with an intense focus on an image, an idea, a sensation. At deeper levels of trance, the conscious mind may drift away, but the subconscious mind never sleeps and listens attentively to every word that is being said by the hypnotherapist. Unlike sleep, where the subconscious mind goes where it may, in a Hypnosis session the subconscious mind is gently guided to positive images and ideas to help create a shift in ones' thinking.
Is Hypnosis dangerous?
There is nothing dangerous about Hypnosis. You will never accept any idea or suggestion that is opposed to your morality, personality, or will.
Can I get stuck in hypnosis?
There's not one documented case in history in which an individual "got stuck" in hypnosis. The "worst" that can happen is that one can fall asleep.
Will I reveal secrets?
With a reputable and sensitive practitioner, you will be guided only to what is safe and comfortable for you to experience. In fact, in most of my sessions I do all of the talking!
